A Book Review (Part I)

Title of book: Tuesdays with Morrie

Author: Mitch Albom

Publisher: sphere

This book is a famous novel written by an American writer, Mitch Albom. It was also produced as a film. This book tells the true story between the writer and his professor who has been retired. After reading it, I found this book inspiring and it gives me my life’s greatest lesson.

When the writer was studying sociology at the university, Morrie was his professor. In the 16 years after he graduated, they hadn’t met even for once. But after the 16 years, the writer visited the professor because learnt the news that he had got a disease and then they started the lesson on every Tuesday, talking about the World, regrets, death, family, money, love, forgiveness, and in the last lesson, they say Good-bye and Morrie died. In these 14 lessons, Mitch learns these topics afresh and gets to know more about him. Throughout the story, a radio show ‘Nightline’ is mentioned, talking about the situation of Morrie. I would like to let you find out the rest of the story by yourselves and now I am going to talk about my feedback.

A Book Review (Part II)

After reading the book, I have a new perception towards life and to be more treasurable to the things and people surrounding. In the book, Mitch says “Once you learn how to die, you know how to live.”. I don’t know if I truly know what it means. But my understanding is how I live means how I enjoy and how much I enjoy. Everyone must go to death; no one can be escaped from it, but with blaming? Never. Another big matter is love. In my eyes, love is shown to me in the book. Have you ever think of how love goes on? Perhaps only some of you do. In today’s modern society, it seems to me that love is ‘buried’. While there are not many people show their love like Morrie. He had shown his love to Mitch by communication. Throughout the book, Morrie was showing his love. To me, it looks like a piece of cake, yet, I wonder can I really do what Morrie did.

I gained a lot from the book, what I can say is this remarkably inspiring book is my true mentor. Lastly, I would like to use a quote from the book to end up my the review: Death ends a life, not a relationship.

23-08-2010 A HEAVY DAY OF HONG KONG

Rest In Peace, those Hongkongers who died in the highjack happened in Manila yesterday. And for those who get hurt, may them all get recovered very soon.

Really, when I was watching the news report, seeing the police started attacking, my heart jumped fast, hoping all the hostages could be rescued but unfortunately, they couldn’t. This made every Hongkonger disappointed, even the Central Government. Their death, made Hong Kong heavy, we are depressed, really a big attack.

The hijacker, an ex-policeman. He was just crazy! He should know that he will be jailed as a hijacker. Did he think twice? A policeman became a hijacker only because things can be solved! Just unbelievable! What he did, caused by "Human Nature"?

Besides, I really don’t know why the Filipinos could laugh for not only once, do they know a big word in this world called “RESPECT”, WHY THEY LAUGHED? LAUGHED FOR WHAT? Really couldn’t understand! Today, seeing many people are criticizing the Filipino Police, I am actually agree with those people. It seems that they were not fighting for rescuing the hostages, how come they did no action in a few hours, shouldn’t they had to have action once they reached. On this, I think the Filipino Government should report about the whole thing to Hong Kong as a confession.

Nearly every Hongkonger are discontented with the Filipino Police’s wrong action and plan! It seems that they didn’t treat the safety of the hostages as the first matter. THEY WERE STILL SHOOTING INTO THE BUS EXTREME WRONGLY AFTER THE HIJACKER DIED! HOW COME?! 3 WERE KILLED BY THE SHOTS FROM THE POLICE!

Last but not least, hope the survivors can live with their strongest faith in the future.

Time Flies

Time flies fast! 2010 has come to the middle and this school year is coming to an end. To be honest, I enjoy this year more than when I was in F1.

Although I know that a few of my classmates dislike me(I don't know why), I have a good relationship with most of my classmates. Sometimes, we chat together, some of them even have lunches with me, which is a 'break through' to me! Being with them, no more that undescribable feeling(something like barrier) like last year. When I chat with them, I found that in their mind, my status of prefect seems to disapear, which is good! At first, I thought being a prefect may affect the relationship between me and my classmates. But as a prefect, I'm proud of my class because we got the least white slips in the whole form(one only) and we were certificated as the 'Most Disciplined Class' of Form 2 from January to June. When I was on duty as a EA, they also came and played games with me, which made me glad! Chat with them in English!

This year, one of the subjects is taught by a discipline teacher. She is not really straight to us and she treats us good! But when she first stepped into the classroom in her first lesson, we all was shocked!

Besides these, is my two class teacher. I don't know whether they will read it or not, but still I have something to say.
Ms Tse: Thanks for listening to my every words and what you wrote on the diary always makes me feel glad!
Ms Wong: Thanks for your every encouraging words which make me full of energy and also your birthday card!
Studying in 2C is a great pleasure rather than a pressure!!!!!

The summer holiday is going to begin. Other than my homework, I will focus on learning Thai alphabets and hope to read and write in Thai well later. In the early August, I will join a Singapore Study Tour organized by the school, the preparation works have already started. I think it will be fun!

My New Sharing!

My goodneSSSSS! I got lots of works to do for my Easter Holiday. I finished all my homework on the first few days. (including : math exercises, two English comprehensions, two English vocabulary exercises, two Chinese comprehension, 900 words of Chinese writing, an artwork(no Arts homework for holidays before!!!), 7 pages of History workbook and a feedback for religion study). Besides of these, I had to do revision for the 2 coming Chinese dictations! Still lots of things I did, I recited the script for a drama competition (English Gifted Class), practiced for it for two mornings and worked on a self-made-car for Science with my group mates!) For my Thai learning, of course it goes slow, only the first three alphabets! I wondered why the holiday was such short!
But I just finished reading an extremely interesting book (with full of poems) borrowed from the school library, If Kids Ruled the School. I was attracted by the title at first! Really funny!

A Film Review -《2012》The truth of HUMAN NATURE

The first day of the Easter Holiday! But the exam will be coming after about 2 months!
I have just finished watching the film《2012》which was great produced! It is a great sci-fi and disaster film!
Few days ago, I learnt the news that the end of our earth will be in the year of 4006. It was told in one of the Da Vinci's works, Last Supper. But another prediction from Maya peoples told that the end will be in 2012. Anyway, I do not want to die on the ending day of the earth.
This story happened in India in 2009 at the beginning. A scientist, Adrian Helmsley (American) and his friend, Dr. Satnam Tsurutani predicted that the ending day will be coming soon. Adrian presented it to the White House. After the leaders of the eight main countries have confirmed that was true, they decided to build eight big arks in China for saving the people. But it was an absolute secret to the public, only really rich persons or countries’ leaders can board the ship by paying USD100000 per each!
On the other hand in California, Jackson Curtis (a writer) brought his 2 children to have a trip to the Yellowstone National Park. They discovered a secret site which the American Government studied the crust movements for the coming of ending day. Out of the site, they met a crazy man, Charlie Frost who knew something what the Government studied. Jackson was interested in it after had a talk with him, including things about the arks . . . . . . if you want to know what happens, simply watch the film . . . . . .
Jackson fled for life with his children, ex-wife (Kate Curtis) and ex-wife’s boyfriend (Gordon). Through twists and turns, they arrived China with a Russian rich man, Yuri Karpov. At last, they were still alive except Yuri and Gordon.
I really like watching this film with the strong background music which brings out the atmosphere of several main scenes. Besides, the special effects are a must to appreciate, every effect looks really real! Also, all the actors even extras acted all their plays lively which should be admired. For sure, the first matter that the film brings out is to alert us to protect our earth. As the sub-title of the film, ‘We were warned’.
But besides of this, I was inspired by the film a lot, it shows the true side of human nature. It was mainly showed in my favourite scene that I didn’t mention in the above.
Somehow one of the arks was broken and it cannot work. The people who are actually going to take this ark were left and at that time Ark No. 4 didn’t go yet. The people wanted to board that ark. The White House Chief of Staff, Carl Anheuser strongly disagreed because he was afraid of the coming huge tsunami. But after Adrian (mentioned at the very beginning) gave out a few words. Every countries’ leaders let the people to board the ark.
People can simply ignore the others for saving their own lives or for their advantages. Human nature always affects our behaviour to go bad just like Carl. If the people were left, they will die even the got a chance to board the ark. It was also showed out in our life. Sometimes, we did like Carl, we didn’t give a help to the others as we don’t want to get trouble. Is that the HUMAN NATURE?
For me, I am still wondering about ‘human nature’.
Feel free to leave your feedbacks!

A Shocking Video!

Hello! Here is a really breaking video. A ship was hit by a 26ft wave in Mediterranean and it was filmed. I don't know why there was such a big wave and I don't think that it is related to the serious earthquake happened in Chile.

The video :

Using Putonghua to pronounce English? My Goodness!

維爾抗姆! Do you know what I mean? Try to pronounce it quickly in Putonghua! Can you guess? Tell you later!

As every one knows, Shanghai is going to hold an event which is as royal as the Olympics, the World Expo 2010. I learnt from the news report that some World Expo Bilingual Guide were given by the Government to the staffs of some shops. It was once a hit in the society of Shanghai. You may wonder what on that guide. This guide provided the Putonghua pronunciations of some simple English sentences. The Government thinks that it may help the staffs to communicate with the foreigners who travel there easier.

When I first saw that Chinese ‘translations’, I really couldn’t catch the meaning and found them funny! I know this is one of the preparations for welcoming the event. But I think it is hardly help for them to communicate with foreigners. TVB interviewed a foreigner and asked if he understood it or not. Of course the answer was not and even the locals couldn't understand it! For a long term consideration, I think it is not a good way to learn English like that.

I think the Shanghai Government may try to do what Hong Kong’s does. They may offer some classes for the staffs to study. This is the only way to let the locals to communicate with the world in the correct way. To me, sometimes using other languages’ pronunciations to pronounce English is useless. We cannot get the exact pronunciations and may make others misunderstand it. On the other hand, Shanghai is such a well-known city, I think this guide cannot help to upgrade the fame as the locals may keep trying to use this way to learn English. Thus, it may shows to the people from other countries that Shanghai is doing lazy and superficial works on learning English and welcoming the tourists. It gives the foreigners a negative image of Shanghai. Learning the ‘real’ English is always the best way.

P.S. '維爾抗姆' means the word 'welcome'!

My New Sharing!

Hello! Happy the New Year Of Tiger! (I know it is quite late to say) The Chinese New Year holiday is going to end. This year like the past, I went to my father-side hometown. Although we staid inside for 4 days because of the bad weather condition, I still enjoyed! Besides, I got over $1XXX of red packet money, much more than last year! I used the red packets to make a 金元寶 (a bigger one). Beautiful or not?!

This morning, I had a McDonald's breakfast with my family. And I found something interesting, I don't know whether it is a mistake or not.

Should there be 'That is' before 'because'?!

Please feel free to leave a message! :)

A Book Review

The 7th of last month was Reading Day of my school. I won the winner of my class by recommending this book, ‘The Five People You Meet in Heaven’ and I got about $900 of books!
The book is written by Mitch Albom who also wrote a famous book, ‘Tuesdays With Morrie’ The story has filmed as a movie as well. Besides, the book was chosen by Radio Television Hong Kong as one of the Best Ten books. Here is some information about the author. He works as a newspaper columnist and a broadcaster and serves on numerous charitable boards in Michigan, United States.
By the title, you may think that it is about who you will meet after your death. But actually, the story is about a man called Eddie.
This story begins with two words, ‘The End’ and it wrote like this. ‘It might seem strange to start a story with an ending. But all endings are also beginnings. We just don’t know it at the time.’. Eddie was a soldier when he was young and he was a maintenauce worker in an amusement park before he died. On his 83rd birthday, he died because of rescuing a little girl in the park from an accident. When he woke up, he was already in Heaven. He meet five people that has been appeared in his life in Heaven. Some changed his life and some was affected by him. This five people told Eddie what he did correctly and wrongly and he was inspired by them. I am not going to tell you the whole thing. But after he was inspired, he forgave the others and also himself. And he wanted to be others’ five people meet in Heaven, to teach them what he knew.
Heaven, in everyone’s mind may be a peaceful place, nothing to be worried, but only happiness. But the Heaven in this book, is to let us review our life. See that if there is anything to introspect. Although it may be not as wonderful as you think, it let us to re-understand our new journey. As the first line of the book I mentioned. Endings are also the beginnings. Eddie did have love in his life but he didn’t enjoy the love or even he didn’t feel it. Actually, being alive with love is a kind of bliss.
I learnt lots of philosophies, it refresh the meaning of life in my mind. And by way of Eddie’s story, we can think of our future and walk foreword to it. So that we can find our Heaven. May be in the day I die, I may meet five people too telling me what I did right and wrong. I am not looking foreword to your deaths, but I hope you will find your five people someday and be other’s five people.
Lastly, here is a sentence to end my sharing. ‘Life ends, but love doesn’t.’(from one of the famous persons but I forgot who’s that.)

(I’m now sticking with Tuesdays With Morrie!)

Special Meals Only for ‘Him’!

Hello! Here is an artical written by me. Enjoy!

Meals for who?
Now, I am going to introduce you a person who you may think that his is strange. The following person called Aka Monsieur Mangetout from France has a special provision for his meals. It is useful but not eatable to us and that is metal.

Strange or SSSSSTRANGE?
This odd person eats 900 grams of metal everyday. He started eating metal since 1959, I don’t know whether he died or not. But if he didn’t die yet, he has been eating the metal for half a century already! Also, this person said that he will get sick if he eats bananas and hard-boiled eggs!

What do you think?
Well, I just don’t know how he chews and swallows the metal and how his stomach digests them?! As I know, metal is usually used in the industries and it may contain some elements that are harmful to our human bodies and cannot be absorbed. Besides, I don’t think that it includes protein likes grasshoppers, so he eats metal for what? I believe he is the foremost one but also the only one who has this ‘unique’ ability in the world.

Information from the Guinness World Records.

My New Piece Of Writing!

Hi! I haven't type anything on my blog for few months already! Here is my new Poem! Enjoy!Do give me some comments! Title : Our Earth

There’s a part of our Earth we call Desert.
With so little water but lots of cactus.
The sands move like silk
Over hill after hill.
That’s the amazing place we call Desert.

There’s a part of our Earth we call Pole.
It’s so freezing it makes you shout “Oh!”.
But how cold are the floes,
Penguins, bears don’t feel cold?
That’s the most frigid place we call Pole.

There’s a part of our Earth we call Sky.
You just can’t imagine how wide.
Birds are flying over there,
Clouds are moving everywhere
In this extremely peaceful place we call Sky.

There’s a part of our Earth we call Ocean.
Which has a huge sea life ‘population’.
Waves are climbing up and down,
Fish and coral all surround.
That’s the wonderland we call Ocean.

My Trip Ended!

On this day (19/08/2009), was the day I leave Thailand and that mean the day I back to Hong Kong. My two younger sisters of my grandmother and my elder cousin came to the airport to farewell. Actually, I wanted to stay in Thailand for much more longer. But anyway, I had to back to Hong Kong and we can chat and see each other throw the internet.
In the Airport, I saw lots of things about Thailand just like the museum and that was around our Queen's birthday.
The flight I took took off Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport at 19:15 and my trip ended at the moment. Hope to go to Thailand for my seventh time soon!

My Trip To Thailand (5)

On the date of 17/08/2009, we took a bus back to Bangkok (for six hours) for ready to back to Hong Kong. We took Nakhonchai Air First Class Bus, which gave me an experience like the fist class on the aeroplane.

On the date of 18/08/2009, we had a Bangkok one-day trip. The younger sister of my grandmother brought us to travell in Bangkok by taxis, ferries and BTS(something like MTR in Hong Kong but not underground). We saw so many special and beautiful buildings and a bridge that can opens like the London Bridge on the way. It already has the history of 80 years, it still using now. And we went to have a lunch at ... Shangri-La Restaurant which is really really famous, delicious (and also expensive, 1300 Bath for three people!Oh my goodness!).
Then we visited a big house that all made by wood which is outstandingly beautiful!
That's my trip in Bangkok.
To be continued ...

My Trip To Thailand (4)

On the Date of 11/08/2009, we were still staying in Khao Yai National Park. We went to a waterfall called Haew Suwat Waterfall which was really really high. However, I fell down carelessly and made my legs all wet!

After that, we enjoyed the nice views on the hill by set on our owl car. And there were some monkies!

In the afternoon, we went to a famous farm in Thailand called 'Umm...Milk!' for tasting ice-cream that makes fresh every day. The taste was really good!

We went back home after eatting the ice-cream.

To be continued...

My Trip To Thailand (3)

On the date of 10/08/2009, we went to our second stop, Khao Yai. I did my 'Two first'! You want to know it?

I tried to ride the horse(100 Bath only)! At first, I was really scared about the horse as the horse I rode was a retired racing horse. But I felt excited on the way.

Then we had a much more exciting experience, boat rowing! There were 13 little waterfalls. Although they were 'little', I really wanted to row again!

In the afternoon, we went to Khao Yai National Park which was on a hill for enjoying the nature. At night, we went out for 'meeting' the animals by sightseeing car. We 'met' elephates, deers, monkies, porcupines... You know what, the elephates eat muds and sands in the wild for some of the nutritions!

To be continued...
